Irv Halter
About Irv Halter
Irv Halter is a retired Air Force Major General who originally hails from Salem County, NJ. Irv started flying when he was 16 and passed his Private Pilot checkride at Northeast Philadelphia Airport when he was 17. He graduated from the United States Air Force Academy in 1977 and after pilot training was a career fighter pilot with over 3000 hours in the RF-4C, and all models of the F-15, spending almost half of his 32 year career overseas in peacetime and wartime service. He commanded several Air Force units, including two years in command of all basic and advanced USAF flying training. After retiring, Irv was defense industry executive, and later served in the cabinet of then Colorado Governor John Hickenlooper.
Irv and his wife Judy now reside in Philadelphia, where he became involved with Tailwinds when he decided to resume his General Aviation hobby. He owns a Cessna 182 Skylane, flying out of Northeast Philadelphia. He holds Commercial, multi-engine and Instrument certificates, and joined the Tailwinds Board to assist other young people in achieving the same dream he did over 50 years ago.
