Philadelphia Eagles Cornerback Jonathan Jones Visits Tailwinds

Tailwinds Academy recently welcomed a special guest whose story perfectly embodies the values we strive to instill in every student: focus, discipline, and drive. Philadelphia Eagles cornerback Jonathan Jones recently spent more than an hour with our scholarship students, sharing how he built a career in the NFL and discovered his passion for aviation.

An NFL Career and a Passion for Flight

Jonathan began by walking students through his journey to professional football, emphasizing the hard work, setbacks, and persistence required to reach the NFL. He spoke candidly about the importance of staying committed to long‑term goals, even when the path isn’t easy or straightforward.

From there, he shifted to aviation — a second passion that has become a powerful part of his life. Jonathan is an instrument‑rated pilot and the owner of a Daher TBM 930, a high‑performance single‑engine turboprop aircraft. He described what it feels like to sit in the cockpit, plan a flight, and take responsibility for every decision in the air, drawing clear parallels between the discipline needed on the field and in the sky.

A Message Tailwinds Students Needed to Hear

Throughout his visit, Jonathan did an outstanding job engaging our students. He asked them questions, listened carefully to their answers, and challenged them to think bigger about their own futures. His message was clear and consistent: success comes from focus, discipline, and drive.

He reminded students that these qualities are not just for game day or flight day — they are life skills. To become safe, competent pilots, they will need to study hard, take training seriously, and show up prepared. To thrive beyond aviation, they will need the same commitment to their education, their communities, and their personal goals.

For many of our scholarship students, seeing an NFL player who is also a dedicated pilot made aviation feel more real and more attainable. It reinforced what we tell them every day at Tailwinds Academy: your background does not limit your potential. With the right mindset and support, you can go further than you ever imagined.
